Event Recommendations 2nd – 8th October 2017

The Internet’s Own Boy @ The CCA

2/10/2017 – 19:30 to 22:00 – Free Entry

The Internet’s Own Boy tells the story of a programming prodigy, information activist, and Reddit founder Aaron Swartz. The filim generates questions about academic freedom, corporate power, and the impact one person can have on society – a personal story about what we lose when we are tone-deaf about technology and its relationship to our civil liberties.

5/10/2017 – Doors at 19:00 – £19

Move D @ Sub Club

Saturday 7th October – 23:00 to 03:00 – £10-£12 (+ booking fee)

Move D is, without a doubt, in the upper echelon of electronic music. Growing up around music  (both his grandmothers were concert pianist) he gained an understanding which, when combined with an obsession with space, has led to his mesmeric sound. Move D will be supported by Subculture’s own Telford, who has played with the likes of Jeff Mills, Larry Heard, and Âme.

SuperMax @ Berkeley Suite

Saturday 7th October – 23:00 to 03:00 – £8 OTD

Who doesn’t love a good old disco boogie? SuperMax recently had its 10th birthday and it is certainly no accident that this night has been running for a decade with queues always snaking round the block – this is a hot favourite for groovy cats to shake a tail-feather at. Expect a very eccentric DJ spinning disco, house, and the occasional techno beat.

CinemaAttic Homage To Catalonia: A Thriving Film Hub for Short Films @ CCA

Friday 6th October – Doors at 7pm – £4 (+ £1 booking fee)

With all that is happening in the news right now, it seems quite timely to celebrate the positives from Catalonia. The CCA gathered together a collection of short films from the creative region, one of the titles being Oscar-nominated Juanjo Gimenez’s Timecode. These will no doubt be as entertaining and thought provoking as many other films shown at the CCA.

Babaloose @ The Glue Factory

Tuesday 3rd October – 19:00 to 22:00

One of Glasgow’s most interesting and elusive venues, The Glue Factory, is pretty picky about the events it hosts. Babaloose, on the other hand, is an innovative concept which would have been hard for them to pass on. An open platform, for anyone to come and perform in anyway they see fit. Almost anything goes. There is no sign-up needed, so people are able to do impromptu and off-the-cuff acts. It is also BYOB, so no need to fear that they won’t have that obscure craft beer that you love but can only get imported from Norway on the back of a heron.
