The rhetorical questions were certainly not lost this time – Subcity radio empire hosted another killer bash, this time at the basement bar in wee Renfield Lane’s Stereo. Despite the hit-or-miss nature of Stereo’s underground venue, the team pulled off an amazing night of good tunes and heady atmosphere. In a smaller venue than the recent pirate parties, the night had something of the feel familiar to the events held in the old Research Club on Glasgow Uni’s campus. The clientèle were the most nonchalantly cool kidz Subcity roots its support in, but they showed no aversion to throwing their hands up in the name of a good tune.

The lineup was varied, both tailoring to the diverse range of tastes in the music-savvy crowd and reflecting the wealth of effortless creativity Subcity is famed for. Roll & Square and No Sleep started porceedings with some house and techno anthems, follwed closely by Theez boyz  and BRAILLE with a mix of UK funky and garage choons. Next, Al from Itch and Digital Dust heated things up with a bitty dub-step and grime before Shaun & Sam  fromVitamins and Benny Boom of Mixed Bizness fame finished us off with a mashup of anything that qualified as a tune worth shaking your ass to – GUM were bouncing around like noone was watching to Missy Elliott’s Get Your Freak On in particular. Photographers were spotted snapping away all night; check out their pics on that Facebook. As usual, Subcity threw a party to remember, keeping things tightly professional without losing their edge – wherever these kids are going with the next one, the only way from Best is to Even Better.
