I’m aware with this being October that any mention of Christmas is going to be met with irritable groans but I can assure you that my intentions are not to promote mince pies or any of that other premature festive hoopla that starts to creep in at this time of year. Instead I’m endeavouring to inform you about Yorkhill Santa Cause, an arts and music project that’s merely riding on the coattails of Christmas promotion to generate a little giving in us lot in order to raise money for Yorkhill Childrens Hospital.

This 8 week music and arts extravaganza will be kicking off in Glasgow from Saturday the 9th of October and will be housed by a number of musical venues including Pivo Pivo, Brel and to finish things off there’s a Mega Christmas Party happening at The Sub Club on the 15th of December. The project boasts the musical talents of The Boy Who Trapped The Sun, along with other headliners- Scotland’s home grown hero’s; Jo Mango, Val Verde and Gogobot will be gracing us with their presence. Not only that, but there’s support from the likes of B-Movie Junkies, Craig Jeffrey, El Dog, Rose Parade and The Black Hand Gang. So, all in all there’s an impressive fusion of sounds on offer, ranging from the delicate and dreamy to the dark and dancey.

There’s also appearances from renowned radio DJ’s in the form of new music guru, Jim Gellatly and BBC Introducing Scotland’s, Vic Galloway. Both of whom are taking part voluntarily to compère proceedings in each of the generously donated establishments and to generally do their bit towards making as much money as possible for the charity.

We all like the added extra of benefiting a good cause while we’re having fun and on this particular occasion, your evenings of musical indulgence will be going towards obtaining advanced medical equipment and resources for Yorkhill Childrens Hospital, enabling improvements in child and family facilities along with paediatric research and training to help all the children and babies being treated at the hospital.

Donations can be made at www.yorkhillsantacause.com where you will also find more details about the upcoming events and can learn more about the cause. To guarantee yourself a ticket (as there are limited supplies on the door) go to www.tickets-scotland.com or call 08444 155 221. Ticket prices range from £6-£8, depending on which night you plan to attend.

So get involved and get yourself down for what is undoubtedly going to be a cracking few weeks of musical merriment.

I expect you all to be there with bells on!… Sleigh bells. Preferably.
